As the popularity of SUVs continues to rise, sedan sales are beginning to stagnate. In January 2025, total sedan sales reached 32,332 units, marking a 4.49% year-over-year (YoY) decline but a 2.49% month-over-month (MoM) growth compared to 33,851 units sold in January 2024 and 31,546 units in December 2024. Here’s a look at the top 10 sedans in January 2025:
1. Maruti Suzuki Dzire
The best-selling sedan in India last month was the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Dzire, which sold 15,383 units. This represented an 8.07% YoY decline from the 16,733 units sold last year and a 7.18% MoM drop from the 16,573 units sold the previous month. Dzire now accounts for 47.58% of total sales in this segment, down from 52.54% in December 2024.
2. Hyundai Aura
Coming in second, the Hyundai Aura sold 5,388 units in January, contributing to 16.66% of the total sales in this list. While the Aura saw a 2.32% YoY decline compared to 5,516 units sold last year, it experienced a significant MoM growth of 39.88%, gaining 1,536 units over the 3,852 units sold in December 2024.
3. Honda Amaze
The Honda Amaze secured third place with 3,591 units sold, becoming the brand’s best-selling sedan in India. The Amaze recorded a 20.83% YoY increase in sales, gaining 619 units compared to last year. However, its MoM sales fell by 3.16%, losing 117 units from the previous month. Amaze accounted for 11.11% of total sales in this segment.
4. VW Virtus
The VW Virtus came in fourth with 1,795 units sold. This represents a 20.47% MoM drop, losing 462 units compared to December 2024. YoY, the Virtus saw a 4.47% decline in sales.
5. Skoda Slavia
In fifth place, the Skoda Slavia sold 1,510 units. The Slavia also faced a MoM decline of 20.27%, losing 384 units from the previous month. However, the sedan’s YoY performance improved, registering a 21.58% growth.
6. Tata Tigor & Tigor EV
Combined sales of the Tata Tigor and Tigor EV reached 1,484 units in January 2025. While this shows a 3.57% YoY decline from 1,539 units sold last year, it marks a 40.80% MoM increase over the 1,054 units sold in December 2024.
7. Hyundai Verna
The Hyundai Verna sold 1,477 units in January 2025. It saw a significant 32% YoY decline, but its MoM sales surged by 69.38%.
8. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz
Despite nearing the end of its lifecycle, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz outperformed the Honda City with 768 units sold. It recorded an impressive 111.57% YoY growth and a 65.52% MoM increase in sales.
9. Honda City
Honda’s City sedan sold 739 units in January, marking a 34.19% YoY drop and a 5.62% MoM decline. The City lost 384 units YoY and 44 units compared to December 2024.
10. Toyota Camry
The Toyota Camry saw a boost in sales, with 197 units sold in January 2025. Although this represents a 36.86% YoY decline, the Camry experienced a significant 123.86% MoM growth, possibly due to the appeal of its new model. Meanwhile, the Skoda Superb recorded no sales in January.
