TVS to Launch Affordable Electric Scooter Below iQube by September 2025

TVS Motor Company, a leading player in India’s electric two-wheeler market, is preparing to broaden its EV lineup with a new, budget-friendly electric scooter. Positioned below the successful iQube, this upcoming model is expected to debut ahead of the 2025 festive season, targeting value-conscious consumers in India’s rapidly expanding EV segment.

Expected Pricing and Positioning

The new electric scooter is anticipated to be priced between ₹90,000 and ₹1 lakh (ex-showroom), making it more affordable than the current entry-level iQube, which starts around ₹1 lakh. The iQube, launched in 2020, is offered in five variants with battery capacities ranging from 2.2kWh to 5.1kWh, and remains a consistent top-seller among electric scooters in India.

To meet the growing demand for lower-cost EVs—especially amid rising component prices and reduced government subsidies—TVS is likely to equip the new scooter with a simplified design, basic features, and a smaller battery pack, possibly the same 2.2kWh unit or a newly developed compact version. A hub-mounted motor, similar to the one used in the iQube (sourced from Bosch), is also expected.

Jupiter or XL Branding in the Works?

While TVS has not confirmed the name, speculation hints that the new electric scooter could fall under the Jupiter sub-brand, which is also being extended to a CNG variant expected later this year. If realized, Jupiter would become India’s first two-wheeler platform available in petrol, CNG, and electric versions.

Another possibility is that the new model could be an electric version of the iconic TVS XL moped, a long-standing favorite in the entry-level segment. TVS has already filed trademarks for names such as “XL EV” and “E-XL”, pointing to a potential modern revival of the popular XL100, currently India’s most affordable internal combustion two-wheeler.

Strategic Launch to Boost EV Market Share

With the electric two-wheeler space becoming increasingly competitive, TVS aims to maintain its top-three position in EV sales by introducing accessible products that cater to a wider customer base. The upcoming scooter is expected to play a key role in that strategy, especially as demand typically spikes during the festive season.

More official details on specifications, design, and branding are expected to emerge in the coming months.
