Key Things to Know About the Renault Duster’s New RGMP Platform

Renault is preparing to launch the new-generation Renault Duster in India on 17 March, and ahead of the launch, the company has revealed details about its Renault Group Modular Platform (RGMP). This new platform will support several upcoming Renault vehicles in India and marks a major step in the brand’s future product strategy.

The RGMP platform is designed to be highly flexible and capable of supporting different vehicle sizes. According to Renault, the platform can accommodate cars ranging from sub-four-metre vehicles to SUVs as long as 4.7 metres. It also supports wheelbases between 2.63 metres and 2.7 metres, allowing the company to build multiple models using the same architecture.

One of the biggest advantages of the RGMP platform is its ability to support multiple body styles. While Renault will primarily focus on SUVs, the platform can also be used for hatchbacks, MPVs, coupe-style SUVs, and even sedans depending on market demand. One such upcoming model is the Renault Bridger, which is scheduled to be showcased on 10 March.

Another important highlight is the wide range of powertrain options that the platform supports. The RGMP architecture is compatible with petrol, CNG, flex-fuel, hybrid, and electric powertrains. The new Renault Duster is expected to launch with 1.0-litre turbo petrol and 1.3-litre turbo petrol engines, while a 1.8-litre hybrid version could arrive during the 2026 festive season.

The platform also supports both two-row and three-row seating layouts, which means it can be used for larger family SUVs and MPVs in the future. Renault is also aiming to engineer the platform to meet top safety standards, targeting strong results in crash tests like the Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP.

Interestingly, alliance partner Nissan is also expected to use this platform for upcoming models such as the Nissan Tekton and other future SUVs in India.
