KTM 390 Adventure R launched in India at Rs 3.78 lakh

KTM has quietly expanded its India lineup by listing the 390 Adventure R on its official website. Priced at Rs 3.78 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), this new variant sits at the top of the 390 Adventure range and is clearly aimed at riders who want a more serious off-road machine straight from the factory.

Interestingly, despite being the most hardcore version, the 390 Adventure R is cheaper than the standard 390 Adventure with tubeless spoked wheels, which is priced at Rs 3.97 lakh.

What makes the 390 Adventure R different?

The biggest changes over the regular 390 Adventure are the suspension setup and wheels. KTM has borrowed the hardware from the export-spec 390 Enduro R, giving the Adventure R far more off-road intent.

Key hardware highlights

  • Long-travel suspension with 230mm travel at both ends

  • 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels

  • Tubed Mitas Enduro Trail tyres, focused on off-road grip

  • Ground clearance of 272mm

  • Tall 870mm seat height

In comparison, the standard 390 Adventure gets 200–205mm of suspension travel, a 21/17-inch wheel setup and tubeless Apollo Tramplr tyres.

Engine, features and electronics

Mechanically, the Adventure R remains familiar. It uses the same 399cc single-cylinder engine as the standard model, producing 45hp and 39Nm. The motor is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and comes with a bi-directional quickshifter as standard.

The chassis, body panels and electronics package are largely unchanged. Riders still get modern rider aids similar to the regular 390 Adventure, but the R is offered in a single white-and-orange colour scheme.

Weight and practicality

With its 14-litre fuel tank, the UK-spec 390 Adventure R tips the scales at 176kg, making it around 6kg lighter than the India-spec standard 390 Adventure. Final kerb weight for the Indian version may increase slightly due to mandatory equipment such as the saree guard and number plate holder.

Price and bookings

The Rs 3.78 lakh price tag makes the 390 Adventure R particularly attractive for off-road enthusiasts. The lower pricing is likely due to the use of tubed tyres instead of tubeless spoked wheels, which are more expensive.

FAQs: KTM 390 Adventure R

Q1. Is the KTM 390 Adventure R more off-road focused than the standard model?
Yes. With longer suspension travel, higher ground clearance and a 21/18-inch wheel setup, the Adventure R is the most off-road-oriented 390 Adventure so far.

Q2. Why is the 390 Adventure R cheaper than the standard 390 Adventure?
The lower price is mainly due to the use of tubed tyres, which are less expensive than the tubeless spoked wheels offered on the standard model.

Q3. Does the Adventure R get the same engine as the regular 390 Adventure?
Yes. Both bikes use the same 399cc engine producing 45hp and 39Nm.

Q4. Is the seat height suitable for shorter riders?
With an 870mm seat height, the Adventure R is quite tall and may be challenging for shorter riders, especially in city riding.

Q5. Can the 390 Adventure R be used for touring as well?
Yes, but it is best suited for riders who prioritise off-road capability. Long-distance touring is possible, though the tall stance and tubed tyres may require extra planning.
