JSW Motors is gearing up to make its entry into the Indian passenger vehicle market, and one of its first offerings is expected to be the Jetour T2 plug-in hybrid SUV. According to a media report, the Jetour T2 will be sold under the JSW badge as part of the company’s partnership with Chinese automaker Chery.
The SUV will be assembled locally at JSW Motors’ upcoming manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra. Local assembly is expected to help JSW keep costs in check while offering a globally developed product tailored for Indian buyers.
The Jetour T2 is a large SUV built on a monocoque platform. It measures around 4.7 metres in length and has a wheelbase of 2.8 metres, allowing it to comfortably seat five occupants. In terms of design, the SUV adopts a boxy and rugged look, similar to models like the Land Rover Defender and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. It gets an upright front end with square LED headlamps, chunky bumpers, and flared wheel arches that add to its tough appearance.
As per the report, the Jetour T2 will be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The T2 i-DM variant is powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 154 BHP and 220 Nm of torque. This engine works alongside two front-mounted electric motors, delivering a combined output of 221 BHP and 390 Nm.
The plug-in hybrid system is supported by a 26.7 kWh battery pack. This battery is said to offer a pure electric driving range of up to 139 km on the NEDC cycle, which should be sufficient for most daily commutes. Further details about features, specifications, and launch timelines are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
