Lexus is preparing to introduce the next-generation ES sedan in India on March 20, 2026. The new model will continue to compete in the midsize luxury sedan segment against rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 Series LWB and Audi A4.
The updated ES brings a new design language, a more technology-focused interior, and updated hybrid powertrain options. Like the current model sold in India, the upcoming version is expected to be offered primarily with a petrol-hybrid setup.
Sharper design and bigger dimensions
The new ES adopts a sharper and more modern look compared to the outgoing model. At the front, it features slim Z-shaped lighting elements that integrate the daytime running lamps and indicators. The main headlamp units are positioned slightly lower and are partially hidden within vertical gloss-black trim.
Interestingly, Lexus has moved away from its traditional spindle grille design. Instead, the sedan gets a smaller lower air intake with diamond-pattern detailing, giving the front a cleaner appearance.
Along the sides, a strong character line runs across the doors and is highlighted with gloss-black trim. The car also gets new alloy wheel designs and a sloping roofline that adds a sportier profile.
At the rear, the ES features a slim LED light bar stretching across the width of the car with illuminated “LEXUS” lettering. Chrome accents and L-shaped design elements add subtle styling touches.
The new model is also noticeably larger. It measures about 5,140mm in length, 1,920mm in width and around 1,555mm in height, while the wheelbase has increased to 2,950mm, which should translate to better cabin space and improved rear seat comfort.
Interior gets a cleaner layout
Inside, Lexus has simplified the dashboard by reducing the number of physical buttons. Most functions are now controlled through a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports over-the-air updates.
The sedan also features a 12.3-inch digital driver display, a Mark Levinson sound system, an electrochromic panoramic roof and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Rear seat comfort remains a focus, with reclining seats and a “Boss mode” that allows the rear passenger to adjust the front passenger seat.
Lexus says it has also improved cabin refinement by enhancing door sealing and using better sound-insulating glass.
Hybrid powertrain expected for India
Globally, the ES is offered with hybrid as well as electric powertrain options. Hybrid variants use a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor, producing around 201hp to 247hp depending on the version, paired with an e-CVT gearbox.
Fully electric variants such as the ES 350e and 550e are also available internationally, though it remains to be seen if Lexus will introduce them in India later.
