Royal Enfield Resumes Full Production of Himalayan 450 and Guerrilla After Rare Earth Material Shortage
Royal Enfield has confirmed the restoration of full-scale production for its Himalayan 450 and Guerrilla 450 motorcycles following a temporary slowdown earlier this year due to supply chain disruptions. The slowdown, which occurred during the April–June 2025 period, stemmed from a shortage of rare earth elements—critical materials used in key performance components sourced from China.
Rare Earth Shortage Disrupts 450cc Platform
The production bottleneck was primarily due to a limited supply of rare earth magnets, essential for components like alternators, sensors, and various electrical systems. While commonly associated with electric vehicles, these materials are also vital in high-performance internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles.
Royal Enfield’s 450cc lineup—including the Himalayan 450, Guerrilla 450, and Scram 450—was affected by the shortfall. The impact was clearly visible in industry data: According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), 450cc motorcycle production dropped to 3,836 units in June 2025, compared to 6,568 units in June 2024 and 5,249 units in May 2025.
Swift Action and Alternative Materials Restore Stability
To address the issue, Royal Enfield proactively explored alternate sourcing strategies. Speaking to investors, B Govindarajan, MD of Eicher Motors and CEO of Royal Enfield, said the company had anticipated potential disruptions and started working on substitute materials well in advance.
“The team has done a very good job of bringing it back,” Govindarajan remarked, highlighting the rapid recovery in production.
With the successful integration of alternative materials, the company has now fully resumed production of the Himalayan 450, Guerrilla 450, and Scram models, restoring stability across its mid-size adventure and street bike range.

Despite the temporary production dip, Royal Enfield’s agile response and proactive supply chain management have ensured that its popular 450cc motorcycles are back on track. With manufacturing back to normal, the brand is well-positioned to meet strong market demand in the coming months.
