Suzuki Access CNG-Powered Showcased at Japan Mobility Show

Suzuki just pulled the wraps off something pretty cool at the Japan Mobility Show 2025: a CNG-powered version of their best-selling Access scooter. Right next to it, they also showed off a hydrogen-powered Burgman 400 prototype. Safe to say, Suzuki’s got its eyes set on alternative fuels for the future.

Let’s talk about the Suzuki Access CNG prototype. This thing runs on both Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Compressed Biomethane Gas (CBG). They’ve tucked a 6-litre CNG tank under the seat and squeezed in a little 2-litre petrol tank as backup. Together, you get an estimated range of about 170 km—plenty for getting around the city every day.

On the outside, not much has changed. The Suzuki Access CNG still looks a lot like the regular Access 125. You get the same LED headlamp with a chrome bezel, a digital instrument cluster, and that nice, flat footboard for extra legroom. But here’s the catch: with the CNG tank taking up space under the seat, you lose out on underseat storage. Suzuki also says all the extra hardware adds around 10% to the scooter’s overall weight.

While the Access CNG grabbed plenty of attention, Suzuki didn’t stop there. They also brought an updated Burgman 400 Hydrogen prototype, which made its first appearance back in 2023. This time, they’ve moved the hydrogen tank between the rider’s feet, which should help with balance and makes the whole setup neater.

With both these prototypes, Suzuki’s clearly testing the waters with alternative fuels. The Access CNG, especially, looks like a smart, affordable step toward cleaner two-wheeler options—especially in places like India, where CNG stations are popping up everywhere.
