Hatchback Sales Dec 2025: Maruti-Made Cars Dominate with 81% Segment Share

India’s hatchback segment delivered a strong performance in December 2025, with total sales reaching 98,784 units — a solid 50.2% year-on-year (YoY) growth compared to 65,770 units in December 2024. The segment also recorded a healthy 11.27% month-on-month (MoM) rise over November 2025, signalling renewed interest in both entry-level and premium hatchbacks.

With 16 hatchbacks on sale, 8 models are Maruti-made (including the Toyota Glanza, which is based on the Baleno). Together, these Maruti-origin cars account for a massive 81.3% market share in the hatchback space.

Segment Highlights: Baleno & Swift Lead the Growth Charge

Maruti Baleno Tops the Chart

The Maruti Baleno emerged as the best-selling hatchback in December 2025 with 22,108 units, registering an explosive 142.63% YoY growth. It also saw the strongest MoM surge, climbing 60.39% over November, making it the biggest contributor to the segment’s expansion.

Swift Holds 2nd Place

The Maruti Swift followed with 18,767 units, up 80.09% YoY. However, it witnessed a slight MoM dip of 4.90%, indicating some cooling after a strong November.

WagonR Declines, Alto Grows

Maruti WagonR remained a big volume driver at 14,575 units, but sales fell 15.77% YoY, staying almost flat on MoM performance.
Meanwhile, Maruti Alto posted 10,829 units, growing 46.14% YoY and 2.16% MoM, proving steady demand continues in the affordable hatchback segment.

Toyota Glanza Mirrors Baleno’s Success

The Toyota Glanza (rebadged Baleno) sold 6,451 units, up 85% YoY and 28.20% MoM, reflecting the Baleno’s strong market pull.
