Kia Sonet has received an important update in India as Kia expands the availability of automatic gearbox options in its compact SUV lineup. With this move, the brand aims to make automatic transmission variants more accessible to a wider range of buyers.
Earlier, the automatic gearbox was limited to higher trims such as HTX, GTX+ and X-Line. Now, Kia has introduced automatic options in several lower trims as well. The diesel-automatic lineup gets four new variants – HTE (O), HTK (O), HTK+ and HTK+ (O). Meanwhile, the turbo-petrol automatic range adds two new trims – HTK (O) and HTK+ (O).
Because of these additions, the starting price for the diesel-automatic Sonet now begins at Rs 9.77 lakh, while the turbo-petrol automatic version starts at Rs 9.89 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes the automatic Sonet up to Rs 2.25 lakh more affordable in the diesel range and about Rs 1.7 lakh cheaper in the petrol lineup compared to earlier options.
Kia has also introduced a new exterior colour option called Magma Red, giving customers another styling choice.
Under the hood, the Sonet continues with three engine options. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 120hp and 172Nm of torque and comes paired with a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. The 1.5-litre diesel engine delivers 116hp and 250Nm and is mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The SUV also offers a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 83hp and 115Nm, but it is available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
With these updates, the Sonet becomes one of the most affordable compact SUVs in India to offer a diesel-automatic combination.
