Mahindra Plans to Boost EV Production to 8,000 Units a Month by FY2026

Mahindra is getting ready for a big electric push, and the company has now confirmed that its EV production will increase to around 8,000 units a month by March 2026. This comes soon after the launch of the new Mahindra XEV 9S, which joins the XEV 9e, BE 6, and XUV400 in the brand’s growing electric lineup.

At the launch event, Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director at Mahindra, said that the brand currently produces 4,000–5,000 EVs a month. The goal is to almost double that number by the end of FY2026. All born-electric Mahindra models, including the XEV 9S, XEV 9e, and BE 6, are built at the company’s Chakan plant near Pune. The facility has a peak capacity of 10,000 units a month, but Mahindra plans to operate at 8,000 units to maintain a stable supply chain and ensure consistent output.

The rise in production comes at a time when Mahindra expects a significant shift in its sales mix. Today, EVs account for about 7.5 percent of the brand’s monthly sales. Models like the BE 6 and XEV 9e already contribute nearly 7 percent of Mahindra’s total volumes. With the new XEV 9S, the company hopes these numbers will grow even faster.

Mahindra projects that by 2028, 20–25 percent of its total sales will come from electric vehicles. This marks a major step forward for the brand as it prepares for higher demand in the EV segment. However, the company hasn’t shared how the increased production will be divided among the individual models. Jejurikar said this will depend on customer demand, and more details will be revealed once production ramps up.

With new models and a clear production strategy, Mahindra is setting itself up for a stronger position in India’s fast-growing EV market.
