Mahindra seems to be far from done with the Thar. Even after introducing a refresh in October 2025, the company appears to be working on another round of updates for its popular off-road SUV. Recent spy images of a partially camouflaged test mule suggest that a more noticeable facelift is on the way, likely to be launched as the Mahindra Thar facelift in 2026. While Mahindra has not shared any official details yet, the changes seen so far point to a more comprehensive update than before.
Another Update After the 2025 Refresh
The current-generation Thar received its first major update in October 2025. That refresh focused on small but practical improvements, including a body-colour seven-slot grille, a dual-tone front bumper, a rear wiper, and a spare wheel-mounted reverse camera. These changes made the Thar slightly more user-friendly without altering its rugged character.
At the time, many expected Mahindra to give the Thar some design cues from the Thar Roxx, which is positioned as a more premium sibling. However, that did not happen. The latest spy shots now suggest that Mahindra may have held back those styling updates for the upcoming facelift.
Exterior Design Likely to See Bigger Changes
The test mule spotted on public roads hints at clear exterior updates. The 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift is expected to get new LED projector headlights with C-shaped daytime running lights, similar to what we have already seen on the Thar Roxx. The grille also appears to be redesigned, possibly featuring a double-stacked six-slot layout instead of the traditional seven-slot design.
Another notable update could be the introduction of new diamond-cut alloy wheels. These are expected to be larger, possibly up to 19 inches, which would give the Thar a slightly more premium stance while still retaining its tough look. At the rear, changes may be limited, although revised LED tail-lamps cannot be ruled out.
More Features Expected Inside
The interiors of the test vehicle were not visible, but several feature additions are expected. These may include ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, a wireless charging pad, keyless entry with push-button start, and power-folding ORVMs. There is also talk of Mahindra introducing Level-2 ADAS, which would be a big step forward for safety in the Thar.
Engines to Remain Unchanged
Mechanically, the Thar facelift is expected to continue with the same engine options. These include the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, the 1.5-litre diesel, and the 2.2-litre diesel engine. Manual and automatic gearboxes should remain on offer, along with both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options.
Expected Launch Timeline
Given that the last update was fairly recent, the Mahindra Thar facelift 2026 is likely to arrive towards the end of 2026, or possibly in early 2027. With more visible changes expected this time, Mahindra seems keen on keeping the Thar fresh in an increasingly competitive SUV
