Volvo has confirmed that it will unveil the new all-electric EX60 next week. Positioned in the mid-size SUV segment, the EX60 will be an important model for the brand as it introduces Google’s Gemini AI assistant for the first time in a production vehicle.
The EX60 is built on Volvo’s new software-defined vehicle platform, known as HuginCore. This architecture brings together the car’s electrical system, core computing hardware, zone controllers and software into a single setup. The main advantage of this approach is the ability to support regular over-the-air updates. Volvo says this will allow the vehicle to receive improvements to driver assistance systems, infotainment features and other functions throughout its life, without the need for workshop visits.
A major highlight of the EX60 is the integration of Google Gemini into the infotainment system. Unlike traditional voice assistants, Gemini is designed to handle more natural and conversational voice commands. Drivers will be able to ask multi-step questions or give more complex instructions, reducing the need to interact with the touchscreen while driving. This is expected to make everyday tasks like navigation, climate control and media selection easier and less distracting.

Volvo has also shared some early details about safety and performance. The company claims the EX60 has enough processing power to continuously analyse its surroundings. By learning from driving data collected across Volvo’s global fleet, the system can improve safety-related functions over time through software updates.
In terms of range, the EX60 is claimed to offer up to 810km on a single charge under WLTP testing, in an all-wheel-drive version. Fast charging at up to 400kW could add around 340km of range in about ten minutes, under ideal conditions.
Volvo is yet to reveal pricing, variants or market-specific launch timelines. More details are expected at the official reveal later this month.
