Tata Motors has officially revealed key details of the upcoming Tata Harrier petrol and Tata Safari petrol, marking an important step in expanding the brand’s SUV portfolio. Both models will be powered by Tata’s new 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo petrol engine, a fresh powertrain that has been developed to meet changing market demand.
The Hyperion petrol engine produces 168bhp and 280Nm of torque, making it more powerful than the version seen on the Tata Sierra, where it is tuned to lower outputs. Buyers will have the option of a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission, offering flexibility for both city driving and highway use. This new petrol engine is expected to appeal to customers who prefer refinement and quieter performance over diesel power.
