Tesla Model Y gets up to Rs 2 lakh discount in India

Tesla India is offering discounts of up to Rs 2 lakh on the Model Y as it looks to clear unsold MY2025 stock. The offer is available only on the Standard Range variant finished in Stealth Grey with an all-black interior. This version is currently priced at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). As is usually the case with such stock-clearance offers, the discount is valid only while existing inventory lasts.

The move comes just over six months after the Model Y was launched in India. At the time, Tesla had reportedly received close to 600 bookings, creating early interest around its entry into the market. However, sales numbers since then suggest a noticeable gap between initial demand and actual deliveries.

According to Vahan data, Tesla sold 226 units of the Model Y in calendar year 2025. A Bloomberg report has also stated that Tesla imported around 300 units, meaning roughly 100 vehicles are still waiting for buyers. Some customers who placed early bookings are said to have backed out, contributing to the current situation.

In India, the Model Y competes with entry-level luxury electric SUVs such as the Mercedes-Benz EQA and BMW iX1. While Tesla enjoys strong brand recognition, its pricing has been a challenge. The Model Y is sold here as a full import and attracts import duties of up to 110 percent, pushing it well above what many buyers expected.

Tesla’s slow start in India is also linked to its low-key market entry. The brand launched without much buzz and currently has a limited showroom presence, which affects visibility and customer reach. On a global level too, Tesla has faced pressure, with sales declining in 2025 for the second year in a row and rivals like BYD gaining ground.

For buyers considering a premium electric SUV, the current discount may make the Model Y slightly more appealing, especially given Tesla’s technology and performance credentials.
