China's Auto China 2026 has had a few interesting reveals this week, but the one that kept coming up in conversations on the show floor was the Audi E7X. Not the German Audi — this one comes from AUDI, a separate brand built as a joint venture between Audi AG and SAIC Motor. The exterior was shown back in December 2025, but the powertrain details and full interior only landed at the Beijing show. And honestly, it was worth the wait.
Specification | Figure |
|---|---|
Range (CLTC) | 751 km |
Top output | 680 hp |
0–100 kph | 3.9 sec |
Battery options | 100 / 109 kWh |
Let's start with the powertrain because the numbers here are pretty hard to ignore. The base version is rear-wheel drive with 408hp and 500Nm of torque — a solid setup for a large SUV. But the one most people will talk about is the dual-motor AWD version, pushing 680hp and 800Nm, with a claimed 0 to 100kph time of 3.9 seconds. For context, that's quicker than quite a few sports cars.
The E7X is built on a 900-volt platform and supports 4C fast charging — reportedly adding around 429km of range in just 10 minutes of charge time.
Battery capacity sits at either 100kWh or 109kWh, and the claimed range on the CLTC cycle is 751km. Now, CLTC figures tend to be optimistic compared to real-world use, so take that with a small pinch of salt — but even if you knock 15% off, you're looking at a genuinely usable electric SUV for long distances. The platform also supports rear-wheel steering, air suspension, and Brembo brake calipers, which suggests AUDI is aiming for a proper driver's car rather than just a tech showcase.
The interior, though, is where things get genuinely interesting. The front seats recline to 139 degrees — useful if you're waiting out a charge on a long road trip. The dashboard features a 27-inch 4K curved display, and while massive screens have become common in Chinese EVs, the rear entertainment setup here is something else entirely: a 21.4-inch screen that deploys from the headliner, complete with a gaming console attachment. It also comes with a 26-speaker Bose audio system, a 7.2-litre fridge, heated and ventilated massage seats, and 23 airbags. In a 5-seat SUV.
On the safety and driver assistance side, there's a full ADAS suite with a lidar sensor and memory-based auto parking. The exterior design — with over 1,500 triangular LED DRLs arranged in an oval pattern around the grille and 22-inch aero wheels — makes it look unmistakably modern without being overdone.
One thing worth being clear about: the E7X is China-exclusive and is set to launch there in Q2 2026. There's no version planned for India or other markets. But as a signal of where the premium EV segment is heading — in terms of range, performance, and cabin experience — it's hard not to pay attention to it.
