Mini India has introduced the new Mini Cooper S Convertible at Rs 58.50 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable convertible car in India. This launch also marks the brand’s third new model in three months, following the JCW All4 and the Countryman SE All4. With its compact size, open-top driving feel and updated tech, the new Cooper S Convertible aims to attract buyers looking for a stylish city-friendly convertible.
Exterior Design
The biggest highlight, of course, is the fabric roof, which can be opened in 18 seconds and closed in about 15 seconds. It works at speeds of up to 30kph, making it useful in stop-and-go traffic as well. Mini has also brought back the sunroof mode, allowing drivers to partially slide the top back when full-open mode isn’t needed.
Compared to the Cooper S hatchback, the convertible stands out with its Union Jack tail-lights and a drop-down tailgate that can support up to 80kg, doubling as a temporary seat. Other familiar elements include the circular LED headlights with DRLs, the red ‘S’ badge, and the octagonal grille design. Mini offers 18-inch alloy wheels as standard.
Interior and Features
Inside, the cabin continues Mini’s modern-retro theme but adds a new black-and-beige knitted dashboard finish. The new 9.4-inch circular OLED touchscreen is the main highlight and comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other key features include:
- 1) Powered front seats
- 2) Driver seat massage function
- 3) Head-up display
- 4) Harman Kardon audio system
- 5) Wireless phone charger
- 6) Ambient lighting projected on the dashboard
- 7) Rear-view camera
The Cooper S Convertible offers 215 litres of boot space, which reduces to 160 litres when the roof is folded.
Engine and Performance
Powering the car is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 204hp and 300Nm. It is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox sending power to the front wheels. Mini claims a 0-100kph time of 6.9 seconds, with a top speed of 237kph.
