Renault Bridger Set to Get Turbo Petrol and Electric Versions

Renault India appears to be preparing a fresh push in the compact SUV space. Following its “Renaulution” strategy, the brand is working on a new sub-4m model, likely to be called the Bridger. What makes this upcoming SUV interesting is the plan to offer both a turbo-petrol engine and a fully electric version.

On the petrol side, the Bridger is expected to use a 1.2-litre turbocharged engine. This motor is likely to be a three-cylinder unit, similar to what we could see on the next-generation Renault Clio sold in global markets. The engine is expected to produce around 113bhp, which should be enough for everyday city driving as well as occasional highway use. In a segment where performance has become an important factor, this could help Renault stay competitive.

The bigger highlight, however, is the electric version. This will mark the first EV offering from Renault in India. The company already has experience with electric cars globally, including models like the Renault Kwid E-Tech. Bringing a similar approach to India, with the right pricing, could help the brand find a place in the growing EV market.

Another important detail is Renault’s plan to use India as a production hub for export models. This could help keep costs in check while also expanding its global footprint.

Overall, the Bridger looks like an important step for Renault in India. With both petrol and electric options on the table, it aims to cover a wider set of buyers in the compact SUV segment.
