Tata Motors has confirmed that its new luxury brand, Avinya, will officially debut in 2027. The first production model under this marque is expected to be the Avinya X, which was showcased in near-production form at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo.
With Avinya, Tata is taking a fresh approach to the premium space. The idea is to build a high-end brand with a limited but focused retail presence. Think along the lines of how Lexus operates globally, and how Genesis is preparing to enter India around the same time. Instead of a wide dealership network, Avinya will start with a small number of exclusive showrooms in major metro cities, offering a more personalised buying experience.
Avinya is easily one of Tata’s most ambitious projects so far. The models under this brand are expected to be SUVs and will sit above the Harrier EV in the company’s line-up. There will be separate showrooms and service centres, with very limited Tata branding, to maintain a clear distinction from the mainstream range.
Interestingly, Avinya will begin its journey as a pure electric vehicle brand. Internal combustion engine models could follow later, depending on market demand.
At the same time, Tata is reviewing its Tata.ev retail strategy. While it currently operates seven EV-only showrooms, the company feels that buyers now see EVs as just another powertrain option. Integrating EVs into regular dealerships could make more sense from both cost and visibility perspectives.
