Tata Motors has once again proven its dedication to vehicular safety with the launch of the Harrier EV, earning a prestigious 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests. Building on its legacy, which includes India’s first-ever 5-star rated vehicle by Global NCAP (the Tata Nexon), the Harrier EV continues Tata Motors’ commitment to passenger safety.
Tata Harrier EV: Bharat NCAP 5-Star Crash Test Rating
After Tata Motors unveiled the prices for all rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variants of the Harrier EV, the company revealed the results of the Harrier EV’s crash test from Bharat NCAP, where it earned an impressive 5-star rating. This highlights Tata’s relentless pursuit of safety excellence, with the Harrier EV setting new benchmarks for electric vehicles in India.
The Harrier EV is Tata’s flagship electric SUV, and it does not compromise on safety. Built on the new acti.ev platform, it is a purpose-built electric vehicle despite sharing some design elements with the internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the Harrier. Bharat NCAP’s stringent crash safety evaluations thoroughly tested the Harrier EV’s crashworthiness.
Tested Variant and Specifications
The variant tested was the Harrier EV Empowered 75 kWh and the 75 kWh AWD (QWD as per Tata). This electric SUV has a 2-row seating configuration, accommodating up to five passengers. The weight of the vehicle in the crash tests was 2,574 kg, and these safety ratings apply to all variants of the Harrier EV.
Crash Test Results and Safety Features
The Tata Harrier EV scored a remarkable 5-star rating in both the Adult Occupant Protection and Child Occupant Protection tests, underscoring its strong safety credentials. Standard safety features include front and side airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), seat belt reminders for all passengers, seat belt pretensioners and load limiters for front seats, and ISOFIX child seat mounts in the rear.
Adult Occupant Protection
The Harrier EV performed exceptionally well in the Adult Occupant Protection test, scoring a perfect 32 out of 32 points. It secured 16/16 points in both the frontal offset deformable barrier test and the side movable deformable barrier test. All points assessed for the front-seat occupants showed “Good” protection, with green zones indicating minimal risk of injury.
Child Occupant Protection
In the Child Occupant Protection category, the Harrier EV achieved a score of 45 out of 49 points. The breakdown of this score includes a perfect 24/24 points in the dynamic score, 12/12 points in CRS (Child Restraint System) installation, and 9/13 points in the vehicle assessment score.
It’s worth noting that the Harrier EV’s closest competitor, the Mahindra XUV 9e, has achieved similar results, also receiving a 5-star rating in both Adult and Child Occupant Protection.
Tata Motors’ continued commitment to safety is evident, and the Harrier EV’s performance in the Bharat NCAP crash tests serves as another testament to the brand’s dedication to building safe and reliable vehicles for Indian consumers.
