Volkswagen is gearing up to introduce the updated Taigun in India on April 9, 2026. The mid-size SUV, which has been a steady performer in its segment, is now set to receive a facelift aimed at addressing a few gaps in its feature list and design appeal.
From what we’ve seen in recent spy shots, the Taigun facelift will come with a sharper and more modern look. The front fascia is expected to feature slimmer headlights connected by a DRL strip, along with an illuminated Volkswagen logo. Changes at the rear could include updated tail lamps with new lighting elements. Subtle updates to the bumper and grille are also likely, giving the SUV a fresher appearance without altering its overall silhouette too much.
Inside the cabin, the updates are expected to be more noticeable. Volkswagen could introduce a revised colour scheme along with new upholstery to enhance the overall feel. Feature additions are likely to include a rear seat massage function, which has already been seen on the updated Kushaq. The Taigun may also offer powered and ventilated front seats, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a larger 10.25-inch digital driver display. Improvements to the air conditioning system are also expected, which should help make the cabin more comfortable, especially in Indian conditions.
On the mechanical front, the Taigun facelift is likely to retain its current engine options. These include the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 113bhp and 178Nm, and the more powerful 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit delivering 148bhp and 250Nm. Transmission options are expected to remain largely the same, although there are indications that Volkswagen might replace the 6-speed automatic gearbox on the 1.0-litre engine with a newer 8-speed unit for a smoother driving experience.
With these updates, the Taigun aims to stay competitive in a crowded segment. It will continue to rival popular models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
In terms of pricing, the facelifted Taigun is expected to carry a slight premium over the current model, which is priced between Rs 11.42 lakh and Rs 19.18 lakh (ex-showroom). The added features and design updates should help justify the increase and make the SUV a more well-rounded package.
