The MG Cyberster marks a bold return of MG to its roadster roots, but this time in an all-electric avatar. Blending heritage design cues with futuristic performance, the Cyberster aims to bring back the thrill of open-top motoring while addressing the modern demand for sustainable mobility. We got behind the wheel of this striking EV, and here’s what stood out.
Design: Retro Meets Future
At first glance, the MG Cyberster EV roadster grabs attention with its low-slung stance, long bonnet, and muscular rear haunches. The most dramatic highlight is the scissor doors, a first for MG, which add supercar-like drama every time you step in or out. The wide LED lightbar at the rear and sharp front fascia connect it to MG’s heritage while giving it a futuristic edge.
The cabin feels premium with a driver-centric cockpit, featuring a large curved triple-screen setup, ambient lighting, and sporty bucket seats. Space is tighter at the rear, but as with most roadsters, the Cyberster is about style and driver focus, not family practicality.
Powertrain & Performance
The MG Cyberster is offered in both single-motor (rear-wheel drive) and dual-motor (all-wheel drive) configurations. The top-spec dual-motor version pushes out a combined 544 hp and 725 Nm of torque, enabling a blistering 0–100 km/h time of just 3.2 seconds.
Acceleration is instant and addictive, yet surprisingly manageable thanks to well-calibrated traction control. The lower-spec single-motor variant still makes a healthy 335 hp, delivering a balanced mix of performance and efficiency.
Driving Dynamics
Built on SAIC’s advanced electric platform, the Cyberster offers low-centered weight distribution thanks to its battery pack placement. Steering is sharp and responsive, though not overly communicative. On twisty roads, the EV feels planted with minimal body roll, while the adaptive suspension smooths out bumps well for a sporty roadster.
MG has tuned the regenerative braking smartly, offering multiple levels, allowing drivers to choose between sporty coasting or aggressive regen.
Range & Charging
Depending on the variant, the Cyberster packs a 77 kWh battery, offering a claimed range of up to 500 km (WLTP) on a single charge. Real-world figures are expected to be closer to 400 km with mixed driving. With fast charging support, the battery can be replenished from 10–80% in under 40 minutes using a high-speed DC charger.

Verdict
The MG Cyberster EV roadster is more than just a nostalgia trip. It combines retro-inspired design with cutting-edge EV technology, offering genuine performance and a dash of everyday usability. While it won’t match traditional roadsters for lightweight purity, it makes up with electric thrill, striking looks, and a supercar-like sense of occasion—especially with those scissor doors.
