India-spec Renault Duster Teased Ahead of 26 January Debut

Renault has officially teased the India-spec Duster for the first time, confirming its debut on 26 January. This marks an important moment for the brand in India, as the Duster nameplate is set to make a comeback after being absent from the market for several years.

The teaser images reveal a few key design details that set the India-spec model apart from its global counterparts. The shape of the LED daytime running lamps is clearly visible, and more importantly, the SUV will feature connected LED tail lamps. This is a notable change, as the global-spec Dacia and Renault Duster do not get this design element. These updates suggest that Renault is making specific styling tweaks to better suit Indian buyer preferences.

The return of the Duster is expected to be Renault’s most significant move in the Indian market in recent times. The original Duster played a major role in popularising compact SUVs in India, and the revival of this well-known nameplate could help the brand regain attention. We have already seen how revivals can generate interest, with recent examples receiving strong public response.

The new-generation Duster will also serve as the base for a Nissan sibling, which will be called the Tekton. Both models will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s Chennai plant. Production will cater not only to the Indian market but also to export destinations, highlighting the importance of this project for the alliance.

Looking ahead, Renault and Nissan plan to expand this lineup further. Both brands are expected to introduce their respective three-row SUVs based on the same platform in early 2027. With these launches, the Duster and its Nissan sibling will form the backbone of the alliance’s renewed SUV strategy for India.
