Tata Safari EV set for festive season 2026 launch in India

Tata Safari is all set to enter the electric space, with its EV version expected to launch in India around the festive season of 2026. Once it arrives, the Safari EV will become the brand’s flagship electric SUV, taking that position from the Tata Harrier EV. It will also be Tata’s first three-row electric vehicle.

The Safari EV will share its core platform and powertrain with the Harrier EV. It will be based on Tata’s acti.ev+ architecture, which is essentially an ICE platform adapted for electric use. This approach allows Tata to bring the model to market faster while keeping costs in check.

In terms of battery and performance, the Safari EV is expected to use 65kWh and 75kWh battery packs. A rear-wheel-drive setup will likely be standard, while a dual-motor all-wheel-drive option could be offered with the larger battery. The Harrier EV currently delivers a claimed range of up to 627km, but since the Safari is larger and heavier, its range could be slightly lower.

Fast charging support is also expected, with up to 100–120kW DC charging likely to be offered. This should allow quick top-ups, making long-distance travel more practical.

On the mechanical side, the Safari EV may get multiple terrain modes such as Normal, Snow/Grass, Mud-Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl. A multi-link rear suspension setup is also expected, which should improve ride comfort and stability on rough roads.

Design changes will likely be minimal. Expect a closed-off grille, new bumpers, EV-specific alloy wheels, and subtle badging. Inside, the layout should remain similar to the current Safari, but with added tech features. These may include a 540-degree camera, OTA updates, Level 2 ADAS, and connected car tech enabled by Tata’s TiDAL architecture.

Production is expected to begin around August 2026, with prices likely starting around ₹26–30 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, the Safari EV will rival models like the Mahindra XEV 9S and will complete Tata’s electric SUV portfolio.
